Guldhaven Pelagiska wins the Swedish Seafood Award (Sjömatspriset) 2025

The Swedish Seafood Award (Sjömatspriset) is presented at Nordic Seafood Summit, and this year it goes to Guldhaven Pelagiska, which wants to put Swedish, sustainably farmed fish on the map.

The Guldhaven team

“You are more than a company. You are a symbol of pride, tradition and faith in the future in Sweden’s blue industries.” — Krishan Kent, chair of Fiskbranschens Riksförbund (the Swedish seafood trade association) and chair of the jury

– What an honour! It is wonderful to be part of this fish family, says Emma Gabrielsson, then CEO of Guldhaven Pelagiska.

– We are impressed by Guldhaven Pelagiska’s ability to combine innovation, sustainability and gastronomic finesse. Their products simply taste great, says Lillemor Lindberg, innovation manager at Innovatum Science Park and jury member.

– 74 percent of all the seafood we eat in Sweden is imported, and when it comes to salmon, as much as 99 percent is farmed in Norway. We want to show what Sweden itself has to offer, concludes Emma Gabrielsson.

Guldhaven Pelagiska was nominated alongside two other seafood companies working for sustainable change in the industry, Skillinge Fisk-Impex and Musselfabriken.

Swedish rainbow trout on Stockholm menus

Guldhaven Pelagiska works to make it easier to choose sustainable and flavourful fish. The company processes Swedish rainbow trout farmed in open net pens in Norrland and has recently started working with Urban Deli in Stockholm.

The jury’s citation

Guldhaven Pelagiska is a pioneer in sustainable fish processing and a shining example of the Swedish fish industry’s strength, tradition and capacity for innovation. With deep respect for the sea’s resources and a gastronomic vision, they combine commercial activity with responsibility for the environment and development, while strengthening coastal industries and local communities.

A particular example of their innovative strength is the development of boquerones from vendace – a species often forgotten once the roe has been harvested.

About the Swedish Seafood Award

The Swedish Seafood Award (Sjömatspriset) is presented at Nordic Seafood Summit and honours visionaries who develop the Swedish seafood industry with weight and a long-term perspective. The jury consists of representatives from the Nordic Seafood Summit steering group, industry organisations, the wholesale and restaurant sectors, grocery retail and organisations that support innovation.

Nordic Seafood Summit was held on 22–23 January 2025 at Eriksbergshallen in Gothenburg, with more than 70 exhibitors and around 1,000 visitors. Innovatum Science Park is the lead project manager of the event, which is owned by Nordiska fiskmässan and developed with support from Region Västra Götaland and the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
